| This is not the newest Beatles albumA lot of people are forgetting that the music from "Love" was actually made for the Cirque du Soleil show of the same name. Having said that I think "Love" is a great work for a Cirque du Soleil show and, even though I haven't watched the show, it seems to me that the music is fitting for it. Listening to it I could just imagine what kind of acrobatics and tricks would be performed to the music, which tells me that the music did what it was supposed to do.
I speak as a Beatles fan when I say this, George Martin did an amazing job. It's hard to imagine how difficult it must be for someone who worked so closely with the songs to come up with such innovative and fresh remixes.
Drive My Car/The Word/What You're Doing (anyone catch that Taxman solo in there?) and Within You Without You/Tomorrow Never Knows stand out for me the most. However I found myself listening attentively to all of the songs trying to identify the various snippets and overlaps, and I was surprised to find so many of them hidden seamlessly into the songs.
Of course as a Beatles fan it can be cringe-inducing to hear our beloved tunes changed and tampered with in this manner, and yes there were some parts here and there that I found hard to accept. Overall though I would say this was a successful project because it was able to fulfill it's ultimate goal, which was to create great music for the Cirque du Soleil show and NOT necessarily to adhere to Beatles fans. George Martin deserves a lot of credit.

| SetbackThe Fab Four lost their manager, Brian Epstein, in late August, 1967. Somewhat rudderless, and with time on their hands because they were no longer performing live, the group needed a new project after their groundbreaking "Sgt. Pepper" release earlier that summer. They decided to make a TV movie, and, unfortunately, decided to handle it themselves. "Magical Mystery Tour" was filmed hastily in September 1967, and demonstrates, conclusively, that, for all their musical brilliance, the Beatles themselves were no filmmakers. "Tour" is basically a nonsensical mishmash lacking "Pepper"'s unifying structure of an alter-ego to the band, and the music, despite major works such as Paul McCartney's poignant "Fool On The Hill" and John Lennon's "I Am The Walrus" (a signature song of the psychedelic era), is, on the whole, a notch below the great mid-period efforts "Rubber Soul" and "Revolver", and below "Pepper" as well--the preceding three studio albums.
"Magical Mystery Tour" aired on the BBC over the Christmas 1967 holidays, in glorious black-and-white, and was not shown at all on a major network in the US for years. The soundtrack was originally released as a double-EP in the UK. The U.S. release (which actually preceded the EPs) was a full-length LP which collected the rest of the Beatles' non-Pepper 1967 output on the second side, and included a rather-sappy cartoon booklet illustrating the movie. This full-length LP eventually replaced the double-EP as the official "Magical Mystery Tour" release, and is crucial to any Beatles collection because of that second side, which collects major singles like "Penny Lane" (Paul's sunny, fanciful depiction of an actual Liverpool roundabout) and its flip side, marketed as another A-side, John's druggy, dreamy "Strawberry Fields Forever", another real location from the Fab Four's native city--in this case, an orphanage. "Fields" is an important song for its use of recording studio technique--two different versions of the song are clipped together. As with "Walrus", it remains a benchmark of psychedelia, as created by the flagship group of the era. This music, dating from the same time period as the "Sgt. Pepper" sessions, is part and parcel of that period in the Fab Four's musical development.

| Il Divo Keeps Its Promise On New ReleasePrior to receiving this CD, I was only minimally aware of Il Divo, the princes of popera. I had seen them on television several times, and knew that they had amazing voices and harmonies. When I first listened to this, I was blown away. These songs truly showcase Il Divo's incredible harmonies. The instrumentals are expertly arranged. The melodies are deceptively simple, yet compelling. Each song is full of pleasant surprises in harmonies, melodies and dynamics. If you listen, and emerge yourself in the music, you will not only be interested, you will also be lost in the music. With the exception of Amazing Grace, the songs are in Spanish. Regardless if you understand the words, the music emotes the sentiment of the song in a way that makes it easy to understand the message of the music. Songs such as "La Luna", Angelina and Amazing Grace really showcase the power, range and precision of Il Divo's voices.

| Cool Songs They Don't Play AnymoreDVD just rocks the house. Why U2 doesn't play "Two Hearts Beat As One" anymore is beyond me. Kicking guitar and groovin bass line gets everybody dancing. The band's music has a funner guitar jammin edge to it (pardon the pun) in this concert from the early eighties. Cool songs like "Gloria", "A Day Without Me" and underrated songs like "Surrender" and "Seconds" are also never played anymore which is very sad. "40" should end every U2 concert period. Again the bass playing is exceptional throughout the concert set. The band should bring a couple of these songs back to their present setlists. "I still haven't found what I'm looking for" and several other songs that have been played a zillion times on radio need a rest.

| Not Cool!I bought this CD as a Christmas gift to my teenaged daughter. She's into Miley Cyrus and maturing with Miley's newer material, but she also loves all the obvious great artists, e.g., the Beatles, the Stones, from the 60's onward. Both of my daughters are sophisticated listeners and encouraged me to buy them the Beatles' Rubber Soul and Revolver for Christmas. I was disappointed by the profanity in Maroon 5's remixes, e.g. Makes Me Wonder. What's up with the profanity? What's the point? It distracts from what would otherwise be pretty cool tracks. I made the oversight of buying this CD at the same time as the aforementioned Beatles' discs. It may be unfair to compare such notable classic groups to the Maroon 5, but hey, I gave Maroon 5 a shot and they disappointed our whole family. You don't have to stoop to such levels to get your point across or to appear cool. Even my eight-year-old had enough class to tell me how inappropriate and unhip she thought the lyrics were. I guess I don't have to tell you who the real winners were as CD gifts to my daughters.
