| any van morrison album is goodAs a long time Van Morrison fan, I have nearly everything he has ever recorded. The songwriting is not up to that of his best work but that is a very high standard to achieve. This is a spare sound that he apparently intentionally achieves. It gives plenty of room to appreciate his voice and the way he and only very few others can interpret a song. I enjoy the album but would rank it in the middle to maybe lower third of his work. That still ranks it as better than just about anything else out there. Probably the album is one that will grow on you but, if you are not expecting songs that keep it REAL simple, you will be disappointed. Read more...

| This album makes a lot of current rock bands sound datedA testament to the quality of this album is how refreshing it sounds juxtaposed with a lot of current bands on the radio that listeners claim carry the torch of punk rock. The abrasive guitars still sound aggressive and Johnny Rotten still sounds confrontational when played alongside your friends' library of contemporary shock rock.
If you need an album that outdoes any bands your friends listen to that try to intimidate or rebel against your parents and peers, this is still it. Read more...

| Like the performance but the recording quality is very poorThis is one of my all time favorite Christmas CDs despite many of the criticisms of song selection (I agree, some just don't belong). I'm not a huge fan of Celine's music but I really enjoy her performance on this CD. The problem is that the recording quality is, at times, extremely poor. You can actually hear wow and flutter (or their equivalent) on a CD, and incredible distortion at other times. Thinking this was a defective CD, I bought two more, and the exact same problems occur at the same moments played on 4 different high end (home) audio systems. It's a shame a performance of this caliber had to be tarnished by such terrible attention to audio fidelity. These are the producer's and recording engineer's failures. Celine's performance is very good in my opinion, and despite the audio failures, is a seasonal favorite of mine. Read more...
